Tranquillity can be defined as ‘a state of calm or quietude’

Budget Airlines coming to a Rural Community near you

You may be alarmed to find out the aircraft bound for Luton and Stansted could be circling over your homes from Spring 2009. The National Air Traffic Service (NATS) is redesigning the flight paths for Luton, Stansted and London City airports and if approved by the CAA will be implemented in Spring 2009.

In consultation documents released in February 2008 NATS has outlined the proposals and is seeking feedback from the public by May 22 2008.

NATS proposals will mean the end of peace and tranquillity in South Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire and North Hertfordshire.

  • They have admitted themselves that the noise impact will be greater for a rural community where there is less background noise.
  • They have admitted that they cannot measure the effect on tranquillity, nor can they assess the visual impact.
  • They also concede that the proposed changes “ …have been assessed as not having a demonstrable effect on fuel burn and emissions either positively or negatively”
  • They show that the number of people experiencing 57db(A) or above actually doubles, despite the claim that numbers under a stack will drop by approx. one third.

There is no justification for the proposals other than a reduction in the number of people directly under the stack.

However

This reduction in numbers is more than negated by the increased impact to the Rural Community and the increase in people experiencing significant noise disturbance

RuralPeace is a group formed to raise awareness of the issues created by the NATS proposals and to campaign to protect our countryside from noise created by aircraft.
