So how does this affect you and what can you do about it?

  1. You can check how your area will be affected by the new routes and you can register your objection to the proposed changes at the NATS website.

Vapour trail in sky over treeGo to http://www.consultation.nats.co.uk/ and check your postcode under the ‘How this affects you’ section. You can then go to the ‘Send your comments’ section and register to get access to a short feedback form which allows you to register your objection.

Also write to NATS using either one of our example letters or composing your own using our Key Points sheet on the download page.

  2. We need to take massive community action; you can sign an online petition at the Prime Ministers website http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ruralpeace

  3. Write email or fax to:

    • Luton Airport - they are preparing their own response to the NATS proposals. Important point to get across here is that there are plans for all Luton’s arrivals to stack over previously tranquil and unspoilt countryside, and that the residents reject this plan. The address is:
      • Luton Airport, Navigation House, Airport Way, Luton LU2 9LY
    • Local press - It’s another way of spreading the word, and the media will keep the story running while they see there is public interest, so write letters and urge others to do the same
    • Local Councillor - details are on www.writetothem.com
    • Local MP - again details are on www.writetothem.com
    • Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly , Rosie Winterton & Jim Fitzpatrick - Remember to let them know that the consultation process is woefully inadequate and excludes many members of the community who don’t have internet access!.
      • Department of Transport, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DR
    • Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) - tell them what you think of the plans and especially what you thought of the ‘consultation process’ – the CAA is responsible for ensuring that NATS consult effectively with people about such plans
      • Head of Business Management, Directorate of Airspace Policy CAA House,45-59 Kingsway,London WC2B 6TE
    • You can use the Key Points sheet on the download page to pick out the issues you want to make in your letters. Make it personal, they will take more notice of personal arguments.

  4. We need to let everyone else know in the community about the proposals and what they mean.

Massive Community Action will be visible and the Government and Civil Servants don’t like visible protests. They would prefer us just to the official response on the NATS website. We can seize the agenda with action and events which can’t be filed away by a middle ranking civil servant at NATS or the CAA.

You can download templates for letters and leaflet and posters from our site.

  5. Join the group!  We welcome members from across the proposed stack and also other proposed rural stacks!
